The Greater Cleveland Chapter APA was established in 1982 as the premier local chapter of the American Payroll Association with members from Cleveland and the surrounding Northeast Ohio communities.  We are an enthusiastic organization of payroll professionals meeting bimonthly to promote local community service efforts, networking with peers and education that further enriches the professional and personal development of our colleagues on an array of payroll related subjects.  We are very proud of the having the distinction of the 1st local chapter of the APA and continue to “Celebrate Over 27 Years of Payroll Leadership.”

Our meetings are held in a centrally located site usually near Independence or the surrounding area.  The meeting features a luncheon followed by an outstanding guest speaker from a variety of different fields and topics such as follows:

Ø  Unemployment

Ø  Taxes:  Federal, States and Locals

Ø  FMLA

Ø  ARRA 2009

Ø  Cafeteria Plans

Ø  Garnishments, Child Supports, Levies

Ø  Direct Deposits

Ø  Security, Disaster Planning

Ø  Motivational Speakers

Ø  Stress Management

Previous guest speakers include Scott Mezistrano, CPP of Washington DC, Senior Manager of Government Relations of the American Payroll Association, Pat Corturillo, CPP, 2002 National APA Man of the Year and instructor for the American Payroll Association, motivational speaker Bruce Boguski, Northeast Ohio favorite local TV and radio personality Robin Swoboda and chapter favorite Shelli Fridenstine.

Topics are selected to assist our colleagues in meeting the ongoing challenges of mandatory compliance in an ever-changing environment of laws, regulations and taxes as well as qualify for RCH credits for CPP/FPC re-certification. We value what is important to our members and always welcome new ideas for speakers or topics.

In addition to our meetings we offer CPP/FPC classes and study groups for those who are considering becoming a Certified Payroll Professional or Fundamental Payroll Certification.   Our classes cover all the main subjects including but not limited to:

Ø  Federal Taxation

Ø  Accounting

Ø  Computer System

Ø  Payroll Management

Ø  FUTA and SUTA

The Cleveland Chapter supports and encourages its members in the preparation of the CPP and FPC exam.

Our chapter promotes community relations by supporting a variety of non-profit organizations in meeting their goals.  Whether it be helping the homeless by providing meals and personal hygiene items to The City Mission, providing dinner for Ronald McDonald House Family Meal Night, collecting for the annual “Toys for Tots” campaign sponsored by our local military reserves or “adopting” the newly-founded organization, Fill This House, throughout the year to help teens transitioning from foster care to independent living, we are proud of our members and their willingness to assist our local charities. Besides caring for our community, we schedule time to enjoy community activities as well as provide some fun for our families too.  We’ve enjoyed the theater at Playhouse Square, Lake Erie Captains games, family bowling events and more just to name a few.

We invite you to explore our site to learn more about our outstanding organization.  Remember you too can make a difference when you join our chapter.  Don’t wait to take advantage of the multitude of benefits that your local chapter membership will provide you. Not only will you learn, serve and contribute; you will also create new and long-lasting business relationships and friendships by joining our chapter today!
